My apology to JohnO, for plagiarising his post header of few days ago, trouble is it was so on song. https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/96945811/labour-says-national-has-let-down-auckland-over-fuel-vulnerability
Seems like Jacinda is into the same sort of nonsense that Rich so adores - twisting the truth!

Well here we have it again. It is running okay so we do not need to do anything. Remember the power blackouts in Auckland a few years back?

Now we have a case of only one pipeline and no back up. But it worked yesterday.

A second pipeline would have cost money, if put in it would be returning a pretty good return right now.

One of the main tasks of the Government is to ensure that the country runs sommthly, that there are no surprises. Not, why disd the light go out
because someone said the cables would blow and they have. Now we have, Hello passangers, you are in a casino and its a gamble if your flight has been cancelled as because we are out of gas.

Enjoy your day, and please fly with us once we have sorted this mess out.

Perhaps liebor could have sorted this problem out when they were in government.
    Before it became a problem.

At least it would have been consistent of them to interfere with the operation of a private sector business.

This is where there seems to have been an absence of 'what if' thinking. Paula
Bennett calls the disruption 'embarrassing,' and she's right.

'The wisdom of 20/20 hindsight' an' all that, but surely a lesson has been learned: where airlines are involved all it needs is the prudent provision of increased fuel storage at selected airports to cover, say, a nominal 14-day disruption to supply.

A potentially disruptive threat has now become actual, so it's for fuel suppliers and airlines to fix things soonest.

Who pays for such a one-off upgrading would be a matter for the supplier and airports/airlines to settle between themselves. If it means airlines keeping their bottom lines healthy by increasing ticket prices, then it'll that same ol' cheerful suck-it-up
time for the traveller. No worries.

But there are yet further attractive possibilities: "Shiny new fuel-tank storage levy" could be yet another sly nickel-and-dime charge that today's milch cow travellers are so inured to - plus that final icing on the cake: 15% GST.

(Heathrow airport with its huge passenger numbers reportedly has sufficient storage to cover about 30 days' disruption to fuel supplies. These are routed to the airport via several separate pipelines.)

Last time I checked there was no specific fuel storage levy as such on Heathrow
travellers, but you never know: New Zealand could yet again lead the world...
