I quite often pass a WINZ Office, and have sympathised with the two
security guards on duty forthe generally boring job they have to do -
there is one standing outside on the footpath, the other just inside.
A week or so ago I noticed that people wanting to enter were being
stopped by the man outside, and he was checking names on a list that
he had. Most were obviously expected, a few had a short discussion.
I was intrigued but not too concerned - although it seemed that it has
not been helping - the queue to be served has been a bit longer in
recent weeks.
Now an article exlaining it all has been posted - and yes National
have lost the plot. They forget that the department is supposed tobe
helping people by providing services that are in most cases a
statutory right; that confidentiality should mean something, and that conducting business on the footpath is not efficient but also not
respectful.
