    Hello Avon!

04 Sep 16 14:08, you wrote to all:

I have also found an areafix netmail from the test HUB is generating a limited reply when I send it a %list query. The netmail lists approx
100? odd message bases and that's it. I suspect that's more to do with
a limit of lines per message or perhaps the way the areafix netmail
reply may have some limits on it in the code? Don't know.

Areafix has been broken for some time now. This is why I went back to binkd / Fmail as my tosser. I've had a lot of trouble with areafix... that bug you have mentioned.

Plus I've emailed G00r00 and sent dozens of packets when small quantities of messages are rescanned the .pkt file won't toss with other tossers... only with
other mystic systems. never once did I ever get a response back from him. But
I noticed things did improve in subsequent releases.

Mystic also has a problem tossing packets generated by platinum express the message text gets mangled.

Then the fidoweb folks do not look favorably on Mystic at all Bjorn Felton points out a laundry list of problems with it. It does not play nice with the fidoweb modal because the dupe detection is not strong enough. In the fidoweb model you connect with as many systems as possible with the same echos. For instance FN_SYSOP on my systme is connected to 25+ different nodes and we do pass duplicates between eacho other as traffic goes through. Of the 25 nodes I
usually get the same message 7 times on average as other nodes will detect and
stop the dups from spreading. While the dups do get passed... the propagation
of the messages is lightning fast between the nodes because of the redundancy.

I am hoping that we will get some of the bugs fixed when G00R00 comes back. It
should be easy to incorporate the ACS system into the nodes. As it is now the
only sepration of echos is the domain name of the network.

I'm tossing about 10,000+ messages through my system a day, and purging every night.

I'm wondering if the above netmail issue would be any different if I
had under the 10k messages bases but not sure.

I'm also going to try to selectively connect to 1-2 bases to see if
that's possible via netmail as access to do so via mystic -cfg is not possible.

Avon... would love to do some cross testing with you perhaps we can help each other. I still believe in Usenet... it's got a lot to offer.

    It's a work in progress.

Damn right it is... and I appreciate all you do. Trading notes between us will
only help GooRoo out. F-Mail is completely open source and it does a lot more
as a tosser. Perhaps GooRoo can fix the one issue it has, lack of importing netmail in a jam message base. Fmail can interface directly into RA, Powerbbs,
Superbbs, TAG and a bunch of antiquated and irrelevant BBS Systems. Would be great to see such a full featured product tooled for a modern system like Mystic. One of my favorite features of Fmail is that it takes in account the highest message read pointer of your userbase and sorts the "unread" portion of
the message bases by date or date and subject. It also does maintainance on the fly after it's done tossing it links, purges, and processes each base that was tossed too. It's a very efficient system.

We also have to remember Mystic is an ALPHA software not beta but constant ALPHA. I have a Feeling that G00R00 is probably working on a few things that are unseen. When he comes back he may have a rabbit pulled out of his hat that
will delight and surprise us all.

    Allen

I don't think it's broken Allen. But it is still a work in progress and under development as such. So from my point of view it works fine for all the
effort and development work g00r00 has done to it... but also will be able to do more when time on his busy TO-DO permits :)

I think doing some of the Usenet testing to push the numbers of message bases etc. is a good thing as it can highlight problems, but it's early days and
too soon for me to know for sure if there are reproducible issues with
Areafix in this regards. I'll keep on testing and report back more on what I find out when I do.

Plus I've emailed G00r00 and sent dozens of packets when small

Well the guy is busy, he has a life outside Mystic (a good thing IMHO) so you can't expect a reply to any or everything. I do keep an eye on whatsnew.txt though when releases do come out as often they contain refs for fixes that is something being reported or commented on in this NET and othernets.

Mystic also has a problem tossing packets generated by platinum express the message text gets mangled.

I don't know and it's not my area of expertise. Suffice to say if you have passed the info on to g00r00 and perhaps offered him some packets to look at then that's about all that can be done. I'm sure if there's something amiss
he will look in to it and if Mystic has some part to play in the issue you mention, he'll work to fix it. He's very responsive to stuff like that when it's reproducible and clear Mystic has a part in it.

    Best, Paul

    g00r00,

I know you have a lot on your plate but if you get a min would you consider adding +ALL to areafix? That would be helpful.

    Hey g00r00,

I'm trying to use Areafix to unsubscribe from all message echos in a network and the %-ALL command doesn't seem to work..

Your AREAFIX request has been processed

    Command: %-ALL
    Result: Unknown echo area

Per /data/areafixhelp.txt it is supposed to unless I am misunderstanding.

    AreaFix Commands
    ----------------

%ALL [search] The ALL command will either subscribe or remove all
%-ALL [search] available areas. If the optional [search] parameter
is used, only bases that match the search text in the
echotag or message base name will be actioned upon.

The search text can be a single piece of text, or it
can contain complex boolean searches. See below for
more information on complex boolean searching.

I'm running the latest version of mystic and the other system is running A35
    it looks like.

    Thanks

    Immortal

A35 is like 1.5-2 years old or older maybe? I am guessing it doesn't support ALL as it was something I added not all that long ago. I think that A35 might even be so long ago it was before the new MIS server.

They are really missing out as Mystic is so much more stable now.

In any case you can do a %list request to areafix and make sure you are connected to the area you expect to be. There are new areas also in that list that you may find interesting so go ahead and get conneceted to whatever areas (mail or files) you want to be connected to.

    Hi all

NET 1,3,4 are running HPT so areafix commands differ a little from Mystic.

My advice is to send a %HELP to your HUB to confirm the best commands to use
    to rescan etc. :)

NET 2 is running Mystic to toss packets at present but will likely change to HPT in time as well.
