• Mystic Youtube Videos?

From Jeff Smith@21:1/128 to Avon on Tuesday, September 05, 2017 03:56:08
    Hello Avon,

I must sadly admit that I haven't visited Mystic's Youtube channel prior to this. But upon a cursory inspection I didn't see setup videos for other OS's besides Windows. They may be there but I may have just not looked close enough YET.

While most of the videos use Windows OS as the platform, the point of it all
is that you can use 99% of the info and just as easily apply it to a set up
    for Linux or Raspberry Pi.

I did then run a couple of install video for Raspberry Pi as well and
included a tar file on bbs.geek.nz for a turn-key install of Mystic for Pi. Which reminds me I will need to update this in the coming weeks when A35
    ships.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the channel :)

    Best, Paul

Very true Paul. If it were not for your Youtube videos, I would probably
still be pulling my hair out... You have done a GREAT service to everyone out here and I know I do not stand alone when I say "Thank You" for doing them...

On the topic of A35, I think I will hold off on upgrading until I can watch/read others experience with it. Because mine is working just fine
now... as it goes "If it's not broken, don't fix it"...

Anyway, I hope that you and your family are doing well and are happy and healthy.

The point where they differ and also the point where some people have troubles is with paths, file/directory ownership, upper/lowercase, user/root usage. And while it doesn't really apply using Mystic. Often times one needs to compile the software prior to use.

I have always been the type to look at something and figure out how it works myself and then resort to the documentation when I have a question.

I recall as a child when we got our first BW television. Me and my infinite wisdom decided to take it apart to see how it worked. Bad decision. My mom impressed it upon me using my butt as a path of communication to leave crap alone unless I knew what I was doing. Within two years I was fixing TV's for people as a side job.

Hi Jeff and Paul I can confirm that as a complete new comer to BBS I was able to do all my setup on my pi with only the videos on the youtube channel and
was able to follow all of the videos even if they were either shown on
windows or on the pi via VNC which is actually how i run my setup.

The guides are exceptionally clear and understandable and get a 10 out of 10 from me.

Thanks Dale, appreciate the feedback :)

BTW your settings in the message base still have your BBS set to 'New Mystic BBS' so you may want to change that..

I agree.. the issue with paths became apparent to me once I started using my raspberry pi :)

I think that would well apply to a number here Jeff :) You're in good company heh...

My dad is an electrical engineer by trade (retired) and worked on developing
a Phillips K9 colour TV for use in New Zealand in the mid 1970's... so at an early age TV repair and under the hood stuff was also in my world :)
