Just out of curiosity, how big is your MUTIL.LOG file? That's the one that
    gets huge here... :)

I'm working on a program that will help manage the logs files for Mystic.
Once I get it completely running here under Windoze, I'll see if I can
    compile for other OSs.

There is a program on Linux called logrotate... I would be surprised if there was not a port of it (or something similar) for Windows. :)

Logrotate should be able to do this under Linux, only issue though is you might need to stop and restart mis/mis2 to rotate the logs.

From the looks of it though, it seems to 'rotate' the logs into a similar format that Mystic does with the MUTIL.LOG file. It looks like it renames the file, (or compresses it) in a MUTIL.1.LOG format. Once it reaches the set number of log files, it starts deleting the files...

This wasn't what I was looking for in a log file management program. I wanted to easily be able to go back to a specific date, and read whichever log file
    I needed the information for.

The program that I'm working on, will take pull information older than the specific date set by the command line, and place them into daily log subdirectories. For example, off of my \mystic\logs directory, I now have \mystic\logs\2017\, which is then broken down by month and day. Each subdirectory has the log files for that day inside.

I just find that to be an easier way to keep the information handy for when it's needed. I was also thinking about adding a maximum time to keep the log files, such as 365 days. That way, when the program is run, it will make the backups of the logs, as well as remove old logs.

Mystic rotates MUTIL logs by log size or by date, the choice is yours. Or
not at all and you can let it grow to ridiculous sizes.

If there is something you don't like about it let me know the very least I
can tell you why it is the way it is, or if I can't, maybe we can change the way it works based on the popular opinion! :)

    Hi All,

I have a utility I wrote for Winndows (32 or 64 bit) that will trim a log file to a specified size if anyone wants it.

    Hi All,

    Download from http://cmech.dynip.com/logtrim.exe

    Syntax: LOGTRIM <file> <bytes>

<bytes> defaults to 4000000 if blank

Original <file> is renamed to <file>.BKP

Hehehe, it sure does grow to ridiculous sizes... :)

What I didn't like, was in the file naming procedure. I had: MUTIL.1.LOG, MUTIL.2.LOG,etc. It just made it very difficult to find the information that
    I needed in the logs.

Basically, I wrote this program for two reasons. One, to give me a more
managed logging system. Two, to give me another project to work on my programming skills. :)
