• Bug reporting for Mystic

From Kinetix@21:2/124 to All on Monday, May 29, 2017 12:03:38
    Hi all,

I've scanned through this message base to try and find answers but I didn't
see anything really definitive on these, so I thought I'd ask:

    - There doesn't seem to be a central bug reporting place for Mystic. Is
there anywhere dedicated to this, or just use this forum and hope that it
    gets tracked?

    - I see a mention on the website that Mystic was open source... is this still the case or was it un-open-sourced along the way?

    Thanks!

If you wanted to report a bug... The person that is working on Mystic is
named g00g00 . You can send a message / bug report directly to him on
fsxNet. Or you can send it via Paul (Avon)... (Sorry Paul, not trying to
    send more work your way)...

The best I can suggest is to sent it to g00r00 as well as copy Avon (Paul)...

    Hi garycrunk!

    29 May 2017 12:11, from garycrunk -> Kinetix:

I do not think it is Open Source anymore...

If it ever was it could be forked from the last open release.
Sadly I do not think it ever was open source.

Do you have some links to an open source release of Mystic?

No , I do not have any links. However, I know that there IS a fork of
Mystic, I just cannot remember the name of it. I know someone does know and
is on fsxNet, they were talking about it just the other day...

I thought about trying it, but I think it was only for Linux, and my R-Pi is not working right now...

Anyway, Post a question here on FsxNet about the "Fork" of Mystic... That version is a fork from the last known Open Source of Mystic...

    Hi there Gary,

Thanks for your thoughts - I will likely get in touch with g00r00 (would he
be offended if I called him g00g00? ;-) ) or post my Qs in this forum, so
that perhaps bugs could be filed or noted where necessary.

Sadly I do not think it ever was open source.

I'm just going on what the mysticbbs.com/about.html page says about it... "In the fall of 2011, Mystic added a native Mac OSX version and went open source for several years."

It was the "..for several years" bit that was interesting to me.

This forum is a good one to use. The author James aka g00r00 does monitor it and respond on a fairly regular basis when he has time to spend on developing Mystic further. There's also an echoarea on Fidoenet called MYSTIC that he frequents but here is a good place to start :)

I have been compiling feedback, feature suggestions and suspected bug reports when James is not active and feeding them back to him when he is. The recent updates in alpha 32 and 33 are a direct result of items picked up by the community and collective testing to confirm resolution of them :)

    - I see a mention on the website that Mystic was open source... is this still the case or was it un-open-sourced along the way?

It was for a period of time around 1.10 At that stage code was published on SourceForge but then it went 'closed' again. If you check the Wiki there are some notes there written by James.

    Hope that helps :)

    Best, Paul

    You are right!
There seems to be a GPL3 version available.

There used to be, but people spammed it with duplicate and/or false bug reports, so eventually I took it down. Maybe its something that could be revisited.

Its closed sourced now. It was open for a couple of years but it didn't prove to be any benefit to the project, and only seemed to create additional headaches.

That is not to say that it will never go open sourced again, just that it
    isn't at the moment.
