• Rescans/Duplicates

From Zarnock@21:1/174.1 to All on Sunday, March 05, 2017 18:03:00
I'm working on transitioning my system from Windows to Linux. I started with a fresh install of Mystic and just moved over some things.

After I setup my mutil .ini files, I ran my one for maintenance and proceed
to pack my message bases down to 500 messages, as opposed to the 5000 I had sent myself via link/rescan when I made the message bases on the point
    system.

No problem I thought, I'd just rescan and fix it! Well, after a bit I looked at my log and see that it bounced all the messages as duplicates - which
makes perfect sense, I just hadn't thought of it.

So my question is, is there a way to rescan messages and ignore duplicate detection?

Since this was a fresh system and I'm not connected to any other nets, it was easy to just delete the echodupes.dat and rescan, but that might not always
    be the case?

Yes and yes.. in your case delete echodupes.dat and the pull a full rescan
from the HUB using the D=xxx switch to grab everything. :)

So what would I do if I was connected to other nets? Wouldn't deleting that have the possibility of causing problems in the future? Again, in this case
it was the right thing to do, and what I did do - I'm just unsure if there
    are other options?

I'm not sure as I don't have a clear understanding of the finer points of how things are tracked by the software when things are tossed. It seems like you can reset message bases in Mystic but if you have done that and then try to toss in previously tossed messages back in to them they will still be
detected as dupes because the echodupe.dat file continues to hold that past tossed data.

So in the case of a one network installed and you want to start over there is nothing to be lost by doing what I suggested. I can't say I'd advise you take the same steps if you're already hooked in to several networks.

I don't think there are, I may be wrong. I will note it as a query to add to
my list of feedback/questions to pass on to g00r00
