Any chance that we could see the option for RIPScript and RIP Grafix implemented in a near future version of Mystic? I always enjoyed being able
to have higher resolution graphics as well as sound and music files for my menus.

Hmm, sound, no thanks, unless I have control to turn it on and off. That's a pet hate with some websites. But I would like to try a RIP BBS sometime.

I don't know if Black Flag still has a RIP BBS going... I never saw one for real, but i saw Black Flag RIP on youtube once a while back, looks pretty
cool. Only works with Windows though I hear.

Wonder if anyone can knock up a quick RIP compatible terminal for Linux? =)

I would love to see Ripscript on Mystic. I thought I read Mystic "supports" Rip? Of course it would need some Rip screens to work. I don't see any on my copy of it. Synchronet has a few Rip menus. As far as I know you need the program called Riptel for Windows to view a Rip BBS. I don't know of any rip sofware for linux. Once you get Riptel installed you can try connecting to blackflag.acid.org port 24. It's an old revival of Searchlight BBS. It's Riped and has LORD in full Rip. Worth checking out. I ran a Searchlight BBS back in the day. I'm a big fan of Rip. ;-) Tell Hawk Hubbard I sent ya.

I don't know how any of your current systems work, but with SuperBBS its possible to do RIPscript via its language files. Which allow you to change the
menus or screens that you send, so RIP would be chosen as your language, you can have on/off as part of the ansi on/off settings.

    Perhaps something similar is possible.

Thanksfully, many websites have realised this, and even Facebook offers (and I have enabled) to autoplay videos with no audio (which I can turn on if I want).

BBSing, like web surfing is largely a visually driven experience, and unexpected audio can be an intrusion. Sure, make it optional, but don't foist it upon unsuspecting users. :)

The audio is not high quality, thus it's negligible in size and downloads
very fast. But it's also optional.

The graphics are similar to ansi, if you look at the actual RIP files on
disk, they are just instructions for how a screen is to be drawn and where
the buttons are (and what they look like). The RIP client actually draws everything.

Going by what others are saying, the RIP clients out there are written only for windows. Are they not executable in WINE?

They are fully executable in WINE. :)

That said it'd be cool to have a newer client that is still under active development.

    serial1=modem irq:4 listenport:2323

I tried this and it didn't do anything. I will try again withot the port listening. I just typed that line in dos and it seemed to understand it. dosbox doesn't seem to let me save any configs so that's one thing to figure out. dosbox is a really new thing for me.

That said it'd be cool to have a newer client that is still under
    activ
    development.

I agree. I have a couple hundred RIP related files, screens, menus, icons, viewer programs, drawing programs, utilities, etc from the 90's that I stuck up on our board. Definitely moldy oldies, but they're there for your perusal and/or reverse engineering efforts. :) The RIP Graphics file area is in the Local Hard Drive Group and is accessible first call without going through
    the
    email verification process.

You don't type that at the command prompt, you put it in your dosbox.conf file.
If memory serves there is a shortcut to editing dosbox.conf in your start menu in the dosbox section.

I use linux and I had foudn the conf file. I made the changes but it still isn't connecting. I'm just going to consider this a crapshoot and move on. Daniel Traechin

The virtual modem should work on Linux. I've been using it on Windows. It doesn't work on iOS, and I only know of one Android implementation (Magic DOSBox) where it works.
