• Old-fashioned HTML tips?

From Nodoka Hanamura@21:2/106 to All on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 07:14:17
I'll start this by saying that I don't know HTML to save my life (But I know enough that HTML is a fairly basic language to grasp - I was thinking of,
what with the recent advertisement of the webring, to upgrade the NCBBS
website with something other than a 'HTTP service unavaialble, use a telnet client you numpty' page. I was thinking something in the vein of 90s early geocities and angelfire websites.

Would anyone versed in web design, preferably from that time be able to
provide tips on how to pull something like that off?

Born too late to experience the scene.
Born just in time to see it come back.

You're already as skilled as most people were who made web pages during that era.

Just start plugging away at it, but throw a few of these up until you're done:

Make it extra fucking ugly with some of these:

Don't forget to add a tiled background image that clashes and alternately provides extremely low contrast with your hot pink or neon green text.

You've got this. I believe in you.

Hah! Though I'll be extremely disappointed if there isn't some blinking text. Preferably next to some extra small version of that low-contrast font.

Don't worry about style for now, just learn the basics. There are
some free HTML editors out there that will let you enter WYSIWYG
text, then flip back and forth between a text screen and visual
screen so you can compare what you see with the markup code
    underneath.

There are a couple of web sites I used to use where you could learn
HTML, then enter HTML into a text box and see what comes out in
    real-time. Those were helpful.
