I hadn't used DOSBox much at all, and yesterday I decided to install DOSBox on my main desktop PC (running Windows 10 64-bit) to try running some old DOS games & apps. I am surprised how easy it is to set up DOSBox, and that it does
Sound Blaster emulation and is basically ready to go right after it's installed. I have a directory on my HDD set aside now for the DOSBox C drive, and I copied some games there, which ran without a problem, with sound and mouse support working. I'm really surprised how easy it was to get set up, and
I found DOSBox can scale the window size up so that it's not a tiny window on my modern PC monitor.

I also tried running Telemate and Telix, my two favorte communication programs for DOS back in the day. Telemate seems to work fairly well, though I saw some
odd behavior with Telix. With certain menus on my BBS, Telix seemed to be sending empty data, causing my BBS to re-draw the menu and sometimes to display
the error "Unrecognized command ()", and sometimes the display just got very wonky. Enabling & disabling the status bar seems to make a difference, too - Depending on whether the status bar is showing or not, I had problems on different menus on my BBS. Has anyone set up Telix in DOSBox?

Not yet but now I am going to have to and see what I find.

Yes, I agree that it's a great utility, and does seem to "just
work" for the most part. I use it frequently to run 'TheDraw' for creating/editing ANSI screens for my system's menu/display files.
Also for some old retro DOS games that I still like.

just tried it though and saw no apparent problems when connected

I do have mine set for a "locked baud rate" of 57600, not sure if
    that really matters though.

I've been using a baud rate of 115200.. Perhaps I'll try a lower baud rate and
see if that makes a difference.

I need to do some testing of my own. My normal hangout is Black Flag, and
there are certain points in the login ANSIs and main menu that consistently make Telix blow up and display gibberish. File transfers fail too - a lot.

However - I recently acquired a Pentium 4, and could try running Telix
natively via DOS and using a WiModem232 to see if it's a Telix or a DOSBox issue. (And I guess I could try through DOSBox using the WiModem232 as well.)

I notice the WiModem232 has more options for configuring how it handles
mapping telnet <-> serial, so maybe that'll fix it?

Remake what? Car Wars? Or Autoduel?

The latter is IP still owned by Steven Jackson Games, and they are VERY
tight fisted with their IP (which is their right).

If the former, it's still alive and kicking! I've been running PBEM
games for YEARS - decades even! I'm up to event #66 now!

They've also recently kickstarted version 6, but I did NOT buy into it,
as much as I was a fan in the old days. No, Gaslands is a fairly recent
game that has gotten my attention in a BIG way! I play it on the table
as well as running PBEM games.

I actually run them via Slack, if you're interested...
