status bar seems to make a difference, too - Depending on whether the status bar is showing or not, I had problems on different menus on my
BBS. Has anyone set up Telix in DOSBox?

I hadn't used DOSBox much at all, and yesterday I decided to
install DOSBox on my main desktop PC (running Windows 10 64-bit)
to try running some old DOS games & apps. I am surprised how
easy it is to set up DOSBox, and that it does
Sound Blaster emulation and is basically ready to go right after
it's installed. I have a directory on my HDD set aside now for
the DOSBox C drive, and I copied some games there, which ran
without a problem, with sound and mouse support working. I'm
really surprised how easy it was to get set up, and
I found DOSBox can scale the window size up so that it's not a
tiny window on my modern PC monitor.
I also tried running Telemate and Telix, my two favorte
communication programs for DOS back in the day. Telemate seems
to work fairly well, though I saw some
odd behavior with Telix. With certain menus on my BBS, Telix
seemed to be sending empty data, causing my BBS to re-draw the
menu and sometimes to display
the error "Unrecognized command ()", and sometimes the display
just got very wonky. Enabling & disabling the status bar seems
to make a difference, too - Depending on whether the status bar
is showing or not, I had problems on different menus on my BBS.

Yes, I agree that it's a great utility, and does seem to "just work"
http://ykhwong.x-y.net/
try this dosbox ;)
Can't help you with your Telix issues, but this is cool! I'm a Mac
user now, but I have fond - VERY fond - memories of using OLX
and other stuff back in the day. :-)
Yes, I agree that it's a great utility, and does seem to "just
work" for the most part. I use it frequently to run 'TheDraw' for creating/editing ANSI screens for my system's menu/display files.
Also for some old retro DOS games that I still like.
I have Telix running, although I don't really use it regularly. I
just tried it though and saw no apparent problems when connected
to my own BBS. Not sure what would be causing what you're seeing.
I do have mine set for a "locked baud rate" of 57600, not sure if
that really matters though.

I like TheDraw too. I'm running my BBS in a 32-bit Windows VM,
so I tend to run TheDraw on that VM. But I'd probably use DOSBox
for TheDraw otherwise.

I've been using a baud rate of 115200.. Perhaps I'll try a lower
baud rate and see if that makes a difference.

I'm very curious if that helps... Please let us know what you find
out!

I tried 57600 but that didn't seem to help.

Last time I got DOSbox out I was having a crack at AutoDuel. Have to
say the PeeCee version feels a lot tougher than the A2 version ever
was. But DOSbox does do its job painlessly which is about the best you
can ask of an emulator :)

It looks like they have a version of DOSBox for Mac OS X.
the old SJ Games Car Wars AutoDuel?

Thats the one, in these days of 3d its showing its age, but it was
always a great game for the time. Got a copy of CarWars after playing
is a bit. We never played it a great deal but it was fun. I'm
surprised no one has tried to
remake it.
Remake what? Car Wars? Or Autoduel?

Carwars was the tabletop game and Autoduel was the pooty game. I'm surprised no one has released a newer version of the pooty game.
Version 6 of Car Wars recently successfully kickstarted, but I did
NOT buy into it... I've been playing Gaslands instead. :-)

Don't know gaslands, V6... hmm not real interested either, no one to
play anything like that these days... The only one I keep in touch with from gaming days is in... Dubai I think it is...
