• All I want for Christmas..

All I want for Christmas is a good word search game. I'd prefer a BBS door, or Unix command line option. Not looking for anything fancy, just a plain word search. Not crosswords, not scrabble or boggle. Anyone have any favorites?

I have "Word Search" by Sunrise doors installed here. I believe it's
exactly what you are looking for... other then dos based.

Do you think some hangman-like game would scratch your ich?

I've been trying them. Can't get into boggle because of the timer. Just looking for something a little bit more chill, and would love the ability to create my own themed word searches. I did find the nbsdgames pack which adds about 15 new console games.

I started hacking on a paint program in Python to get my arms wrapped around the curses library. My thought is I can take one of the existing word search puzzle generators and do a nice full screen curses overlay for scoring. For just a day, I made some great progress. Think my holiday idea will turn into an obsession.

    Thanks Shawn.

I've played the Sunrise version a bit. I can't really play it on my laptop because it doesn't have a numeric keypad (can't use arrow keys) and there are a bunch of artificial delays that the author put in that make it pretty frustrating.

On another note, I did also try contacting these guys to get a key over the summer and they never responded.

This has turned into a bit of an obsession now. I've spent at least 2 days looking for curses based word search and came up empty. So I'm going to build one, I'm about half way done with learning the curses implementation in Python, then it's time to work a puzzle generator.

I've got my holiday project figured out.

Cool, good luck that sounds like a neat project to sink your teeth into.

I've spent today doing some fsx admin stuff and then later in the day working on adding new (80's and 90's) music to the playlist for my LPFM station. The latter is a slow process but rewarding to get done.

He used to be pretty good about answering, but he's not getting any younger.

Why is it slow? Do you source from CDs? Once the tune is
ripped and meta data added, isn't it just a simple matter to
    store it?

To do that bit, yes that's quick. To code each song in the software I use to schedule the music, that takes time.
