• First Day

From Avon@21:1/101 to All on Monday, January 20, 2020 20:18:35
Well over here it's summer... well it's meant to be, but locally the weather has been less than stellar with more windy, cool and cloudy days than warm
    blue sky sunny ones.

I took a large chunk of my annual vacation time off from Christmas Eve until yesterday and started back at work today.

Fair to say was not overly fussed about going to work and getting back into things, but took it slow and spent the day catching up on some 1200+ emails plus a one to one meeting with my team leader. I have a number of jobs to
start working on tomorrow onwards so (sigh) back to the grindstone I go :)

My health has not been good over this time. Had a nasty lung infection that really bit me on Christmas Eve and saw me at the doctors getting
ten days of antibiotics... then was back again around 13 Jan to do it all
again and also get blood tests and a chest x-ray.

Breathing has been hard and labored. I am not a smoker etc. so this was/is still just bad bugs as far as I know. The tests came back today clear so
that's a relief and I have 1.5 days of drugs left to take. Things are slowly improving but it's taken a lot of energy out of me and my levels of interest
in this hobby, heck even doing stuff like watching TV have taken a hit.

But as I type this tonight I am feeling a bit better and the last few nights
I have slept better also and the breathing in has not be quite as painful.

To anyone who smokes or vapes etc. I can not for the life of me understand
why you would ever do stuff like that to your lungs... but hey that's just my opinion and folks can lead the lives they wish :)

I'm going to be a solo guy for the rest of the week as the rest of the family are heading away out of town for a few days visiting relatives and having a
bit more time on holiday. I plan to take it easy, perhaps go see a movie and just be kind to myself.

I'm enjoying seeing g00r00 active again in Mystic and grateful for everyone
who takes the time to remain active in BBSing and posting their contributions to fsxNet - so thanks guys...

Tonight I am working on setting up a Fidonet feed for a node and then it's going to be some Netflix and/or Disney+ ... am hanging out for the Picard series to start soon but will need to try and convince the lady of the house it's a good idea to subscribe to Amazon - wish me luck!

    Best, Paul

How's the fire situation & the rest of the stuff which goes with it? Hope that's getting better & with it...your lungs.

Yikes. Glad to hear you're on the mend and it isn't anything serious.

I also had health issues during the holidays. I have asthma due to living
near open-air burn pits in the middle east for a long time (which
incidentally developed seemingly overnight and more or less ended my military career in one fell swoop). This makes me susceptible to lung infections more easily than most. I ended up with pneumonia in December, and was bedridden
for a couple of weeks. I was given a "z-pack" or something like that, which
is several days' worth of antibiotic treatment. This fixed me, but it screwed up my gut microbiome, leaving me vulnerable to bacterial infections.
So...once the pneumonia was healed, my gf and I went out for sushi, and I got the worst case of food poisoning of my entire life. I was rushed to the ER
and put on IV fluids due to not being able to keep anything down and dehydrating myself seriously.

Now I'm back to drinking beer and whisky and playing with the BBS. So...life goes on. :P

Hope you get well soon, and thanks for keeping in the loop with g00r00!

Agreed, live and let live, but I also cannot understand wanting to do that
to oneself. I had a lot of problems with alergies when I was younger,
which lead to a lot of bronch and sinus issues. I am glad to be mostly
over than now (knock on wood!) and cannot imagine what it must be like for
some folks who are my age and have smoked since they were young.

It's not fun. Been fighting with trying to quit for several months now. I've been a heavy smoker since the early '80s.

I quit on Dec 26 and put on the patch and haven't smoked or really wanted to since, but yeah.. that has to be the most miserable thing to go through that I know. The first 10 days were rough.. :)

On day 11 I wasn't having much trouble so I haven't used the patch since then.

I think I have that all behind me now. :)

That's awesome! Just picked up the patch. Going to give it a try. May see
about vaping as well. My mom quit after smoking 50 years that way. Worked herself down to no nicotine over a period of a couple of months, kept vaping with no nicotine for a month or two and then stopped that.

Over here, the holidays are over, and I'm ready for summer. Not that it's
been a bad winter, I'm just over it... :)

I took a large chunk of my annual vacation time off from Christmas Eve until yesterday and started back at work today.

I only had taken 5 days off during the holidays, and it was difficult to go back. :)

That's not good. Maybe it was the smoke in the air from the fires in
    Australia. ;)

But as I type this tonight I am feeling a bit better and the last few nights I have slept better also and the breathing in has not be quite as painful.

    That's a good sign.

Guilty... I've been smoking now for over 35 years. Nobody likes a quitter. ;) What's kind of ironic, my mother-in-law just had some tests done, and they found that she has lung cancer. Hasn't smoked in over 40 years, but she is 86 years old.

Party at Paul's house!!! :) In all seriousness, just take care of yourself.

I'm glad to see him back in action again. I really should install a test copy of A44 and at least take a look at it.

I'd also like to throw my thanks out there. I have met some great people in this community, and I'm so glad that we're still able to share a common hobby.

Middle of the winter over here and cold (upper teens (F) as I type this).

I took a large chunk of my annual vacation time off from Christmas Eve
until yesterday and started back at work today.

I did the same thing. Was off from Christmas Eve until after New Years Day. Similar to you, was sick about a week of it with strep throat which went through the entire home.

I also returned to work with thousands of emails.. I still say you should be able to delete all emails received while on vacation and start new when returning. :)

It's not fun. Been fighting with trying to quit for several months now. I've been a heavy smoker since the early '80s.

Everyone has to figure out what works best for themselves. In my case, it was nicotine lozenges for 8+ months. Eventually I no longer needed the lozenges, but was willing to take them for as long as necessary. Was tired of being controlled by the addition aspect. That was the main reason in my case.

It has been long enough I don't even remember how many years since I smoked. Maybe 12-14 years ago at this point.
