    Hi guys!
Just now I saw in the news a heat wave in Canada with almost 50oC.
Any users from Canada here? Are you ok?

I am in a little town called Penticton in the BC interior. The warmest it got here was 43C but that is plenty warm for me. When I step out on my balcony at that temp it feels like stepping into an oven.

The high for tomorrow is 33C so I'm looking forward to that.

That weather system is now moving east towards Alberta and Saskatchewan so I hope it doesn't create any problems and will just peeter out.

    [Gleened from a news report..]

Canada now one of the HOTTEST places on the planet!

A heatwave is ravaging Canada, where temperatures are hitting
49.5 degrees Celsius (121 Fahrenheit) - higher than anywhere in
Europe or South America! In fact, the average high summer
temperature in SAHARA desert is only about 47C.

A record for a place that spends half the year dusted in snow!

Reports in Western Canada have extreme temperatures melting
asphalt, leaving highways scattered with overheated cars, and
    sparking out-of-control wildfires.

The number of sudden heat-related deaths across British
    Columbia has risen to 719.

The B.C. Coroners Service said the deaths, which were recorded
over seven days, represent about three times the number that
would normally be expected over the course of a week.

That sucks. Take cood care of yourself.

Drink often and wear a hat when working outside. Don't stay in the sun for long and don't be active in the hotter moments of the day-propably between 13:00 and 18:00.

Also, screw snow. Snow is the worst. It belongs to the mountains.

    Wow! That'd fry *my* eggs.

Where I am, it's a cool 6C with other places in NZ reaching down to -8.2C.
The highest in the country is currently 9.4C.

I remember a couple years back when we had a heatwave in my city reaching something like 33C for days at a time. That was way too hot for me.

SOme friends in Australia say they frequently get 40+C for weeks at a
time over summer, with some places peaking at over 50. But that's normal
    for them.

    I can't imagine what it'd be like here with 49.5C weather. :P

Yesterday and two days prior was the 1st time I really needed
to turn on the A/C in the shop. When the heat outside is
combined with high humidity (which we had due to plenty of rain
last week) then the higher temps start to feel heavy and
    stifling.

Drink often and wear a hat when working outside. Don't stay

What do you suggest for drink? :D Having grown up on a farm,
the worst time to be outside in the sun is the early to mid-
afternoon. Things are more bearable by 4p.

I usually still remain quite pale all summer compared to the
scantilly dressed tourists that venture in my shop. Sometimes
I feel jealous, but most times - not.

Also, screw snow. Snow is the worst. It belongs to the
    mountains.

    I concur.

Water works well. I find that if I have been working a lot in the afternoon heat, some kind of sugar loaded drink works a bit better - in moderation.

I know you were expecting bourbon, but it is not what I would recommend in this case.

That was way too hot for me.

I lived in a south-facing apartment when I lived in Montreal
many years ago (three windows and a balcony door facing south).
Sometimes it would get very warm inside. It made no sense to
open the windows or balcony door when it was hotter outside
than inside. The only way I could try to stay cool was to spend
a few minutes under a cold shower every few hours. But it was
the humidity mixed with the heat that was the uncomfortable
part. A few stratically placed fans helped create some comfort
    too.

Ah.. but it would be pretty dry air there, so less unbearable.

Wow, I don't think it's ever been that hot here.. But yeah we get the
high humidity too, so I guess it's lucky we don't get the high
    temperatures too often.
