• Question about using Mystic

From goto_KCM@21:1/101 to All on Saturday, March 27, 2021 05:46:01
    Hi,
as i am new to this i have a lot of unread and new messages in the different bases. When i open a base, i starts with Message 1. How do change to the last Message in base or goto last page or set a base as already read?

    Sorry to bother you.

    Regards
    Andreas

YES i have the same question too! if anyone can answer this i would be very greatful as it seems to load all my messages as the oldest one first, instead of the newist one first.

    Thanks

When you are presented with a list of messages in the base you can use the
page up/down keys to move page at a time through the messages. The HOME key will jump you to the oldest message while the END key will get you to the latest message.

You can also do something like look for an option to reset your last read message pointers for that message base (or all bases) then set that 'last
read' date to say today or a day or so earlier, then when you start to look
at 'new' messages the BBS will only show you new messages that arrived in
each message base since the day you stated.

    Hope that helps!

    Best, Paul

first, instead of the newist one first.

Someone already gave a good answer to the original question, but I thought
    this was an interesting thing.

Because it's coming from the viewpoint of reading a message base like one
might read e-mail on a website, with newest first, and status things for each message so you know if you've read it.

    Which is interesting.

That said, the answer to _this_ question is, "sorry, it's not currently possible".

And it's not currently possible because Mystic keeps a pointer to which
message is the latest-read message in each base, for that user.

So if you read the last message in the base, every message in the base is marked as read, rather than something that's per message.

Isn't that the same issue in Synchronet? At least one Synchronet
sysop solves that matter by configuring a point off their node
and uses OpenXP for messaging. OpenXP identifies read and
unread messages. It even can identify just the new ones since
    the last poll.

So.. if the original poster is a sysop, then OpenXP might be a
    good solution for Mystic?

There's two ways you can deal with this, on a particular message base, you
can use "R" to read, "F" for forward and choose the post number to start with.

Globally, you can use "D" from the message menu for Set newscan date, and change the starting date.
