Golly. Congrats on the kids but commiserations on her health issues..

I'm buggered I just spent all day outside in the garden. Filling a big metal skip up with green waste.

Thanks. There are several things going on, actually, but right now her
shoulder pain is the worst part. She had surgery a few years ago but was 'under' for 4-1/2 hours - she said she won't be doing that again anytime
    soon!

Just got in from 'rastlin' in Ripley, TN - another little town a half
hour away. I've been enjoying the resurgence of NWA and their studio

Bugger, yeah my wife has had a spinal fusion where some discs in her back got fused and was also under for several hours when that was done. I think over time it gets worse again but I don't expect she would do it again either.

That's the boat I'm in. I didn't get a very good run out of it though. And yes its meant to drift off again after a period of time, because for better or worse whatever movement the you had in the now fused joint has to be made up by
the next one. Also when one is far enough gone the state of the others ins't usually that good either, so they'll continue to degenerate.

I was surprised when I saw th first x-rays of my back, it seemed to look a bit like a bad jigsaw, or even more accurately a stack blocks stacked precariously by a small child, one here one there, just enough to maintain balance. When I inquired whether the fusion would help them, the answer was probably not... but
you can't fuse them all or you wouldn't be able to move either...

My son's back is fused. Beanzilla. About 5 years ago now. He had about
180 degrees of curve to his spine. They were able to remove about 30
degrees with traction. First surgery was about 11 hours or so.

Next morning, surgeon met me in the lobby of the hospital. The muscles
overtop the spine had pressed down touching the spine, and he had lost
all feeling/movement from the waist down. More hours of surgery, and
feeling was back. Surgeon described it as a spinal stroke.

Then began physical therapy for him to relearn how to walk again.
(Well, they thought he was going to be in a wheelchair from here on out.)
But, from struggles to walk 5 steps, to walker, to quad-cane, to cane.
And now, he walks mostly fine. Well, as fine as one can with your spine
fused. ;) Your spine rotates slightly when you walk, but his can't.

Oh yeah, the jigsaw part! The surgeon tried to make a 3d model of
Beanzilla's spine. The model was so fragile that it broke. Yikes!

    Kyphoscoliosis. :O

    Take care,

Yeah, around 7th grade, and all of 8th out of school for all this adventure.

all feeling/movement from the waist down. More hours of surgery, and feeling was back. Surgeon described it as a spinal stroke.

It was cool them sticking a special needle hooked up to a machine then sticking that into my leg, and hearing what sounds like static but actually is my nervous
system sending electrical signals, all that just to check the extent of the lost
feeling/movement. (By the way, you have a needle in your leg, so activate that
    muscle... ouch)

Then began physical therapy for him to relearn how to walk again.

Yeah relearning how to walk was very tough... but if you can pull through it, why let the minor stuff slow you down.

(Well, they thought he was going to be in a wheelchair from here on
out.) But, from struggles to walk 5 steps, to walker, to quad-cane, to cane. And now, he walks mostly fine. Well, as fine as one can with

    his can't.

The following I can not ever do:
    Jumping,
    Parachuting,
    Rotate my upper torso,
    Skiiing.

Course I never really want to go jumping out of a airplane at any height. :)

Oh yeah, the jigsaw part! The surgeon tried to make a 3d model of Beanzilla's spine. The model was so fragile that it broke. Yikes!

    Kyphoscoliosis. :O

Kyphosis, The spine makes a S shape.
Scoliosis, The spine makes a C shape.

Combined to have a spine doing both S and C shapes. (btw, I am not into medical
stuff... so why do I know all this... oh been here too long)

I don't think that explanation is right.
