• File Types question

From Argos@21:1/203 to All on Thursday, January 02, 2020 10:00:06
    Question ?

in my echomail in directory I have two file types pending there ... they are *.we0 and *.th0

Can someone elaborate on what these file types are so I can figure out why there continue to appear in my echomail in directory and remain.

I did look into this files with 7zip and they are in fact a zip file, but the file is empty.

Very curious...... I just have been manually deleting them.

They are compress message packets. If they have a file length of 22 then they're empty. Here they're received by binkd, binkit for people using Synchronet. No idea what Mystic uses. They should be picked up and inserted into the echo database or whatever.

In my binkd log I can see that I'm receiving the packet.

This is an earlier import (it's shorter than the above one) you can see that the we0 file contains a number of .pkt files. we0 are from Wednesday, th0
would be Thursday. You can always unzip the files to discover their
    contents.

Those are compressed mail bundles you have been deleting. The contents should contain at least one packet file (PKT). If not, there is a problem with the system sending you them. I don't know what software you are running but best to match the compressed files with whoever sent them, in your mailer's log.

That is the naming convention for FTN mail bundles. Normally, they'd have
a bunch of *.pkt files in them so yours being empty is a head scratcher.

As they are in your "in" directory, they are likely originating from one of your up or downlinks.

That answers a few questions. However when I unzip the file the is nothing in the file at all. It is simply an empty file.

Every once in a while I'll see corrupt files like that come in. Just delete them.

I did look into this files with 7zip and they are in fact a zip file,
    but the file is empty.

I have also noticed empty zipped packets appearing from time to time here -- not sure where they come from, though:

    -rw-rw---- 1 bbs bbs 22 jan 2 08:45 0d9fe100.th0
    -rw-rw---- 1 bbs bbs 22 jan 2 17:44 0e1e2300.fr0

    unzip -t 0d9fe100.th0
    Archive: 0d9fe100.th0
    warning [0d9fe100.th0]: zipfile is empty

I suppose they must be from my uplink (21:1/100) as they are in my "in"
folder and not in "in/unsecure", and I have no other trusted (configured) echomail nodes in my Mystic, but I'm not sure.

    Perhaps Paul has some idea?

I believe they started appearing right before Christmas. But I cannot find anything in my Mystic fidopoll logs regarding those filenames, though. They just appear from nowhere and then get complained about by mutil on every
    import run.

    Best regards

I only had two empty zip file when Paul switched from the mystic tosser to hpt some days before christmas. I haven't received any other empty one since then.

    OK! Thanks!

I had a couple right before Christmas but now two more from yesterday.
Waiting to see if Paul has some idea (or can find anything about these files from the logs). Thanks in advance, Paul! :)

I see these after failed transfers most often. The system opens a file, fails
to receive anything and then closes it again... presto 0 byte files...

I wouldn't worry while they are 0's when you're out the th9 or thf you know you're having problems.
