    Does anyone remember these when CDs were still popular then?

    They went away around 1993/1994. They were concerend about the paper trash.

    Briefly. I don't remember them as being the standard for very
    long - maybe 3 years max?

    But today, it seems strange that the longbox (cardboard) was
    considered wasteful and its replacement (shrinkwrapped longbox
    size plastic) was more desirable.

    I purchased the majority of my CDs from the mail-in clubs, and
    those CDs arrived in the just the standard CD cases.

    I don't recall them lasting here long... I vaguely recall noticing them when they arrived, but just amongst regular CD covers and then they were gone again.
