    From Nigel Reed@21:2/101 to FSXNET.FSX_GEN on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 11:53:49
Since I know pretty much every sysop is in here...

My BBS was down for a week or so thanks to my lovely provider who pulled the plug over a dispute with another VM I had with them.

Good news, I have daily off-site backups so I'm all setup with a new provider and very happy. Of course, the IPs have changed but the DNS is updates so it shouldn't matter. Still waiting on RDNS for the ipv6 but otherwise, all
    systems are go!

    Thanks,
    Nigel

What aspect of the VM bothered them so much to pull the plug?

    Glad to have you back.

Connections have been a bit hit-n-miss today (Sunday) though. :(

I did not realize that Google offered domain registration.

They offer free VMs which I took for the BBS. The idea is that you are so impressed you tell your friends so they will sign up.

I signed up to get another identical but paid for and it way many times
slower. A 5 second ./configure on the free service took 45 seconds on the paid service. Even though it was exactly the same memory, cpu etc. I told them they need to fix it and they said "that's how it is, you'll have to pay more to upgrade". I told them no and to refund me. I told them to return the money or I'll do a chargeback. They told me to do whatever I must. Next thing I know, I'm locked out of both, and they still have my money.

Stinky bastards. What provider is this? I'm going to be looking for a provider and just want to avoid this kind of thing.

Since you had paid, there doesn't sound like any reason to lock
    you out.

The credit card company should be on your side. A chargeback
would be blemish for the ISP.

Try a chargeback with no documentation to back your case in Spain. Next thing you'll know is you are in a sketchy debtor blacklist and no power of phone company will want to sell anything to you.

    Dignusdata.

I'm using DrServer right now and very happy with them. That is my BBS server
in Dallas. I have a KVM in Los Angeles through Racknerd who are pretty good
but will probably switch after my contract ends because I'd prefer it to be in Dallas. I also have a VM in London through INIZ for off-shore backups and they're also reliable. I'd recommend any of the three though INIZ support is not quite as helpful.

They've been banned from LowEndTalk it seems, and don't have a very good reputation. I throw caution to the wind because the price was good and the server was fast.

I have filed the paperwork for the chargeback so we'll see what happens.

Well, one. I'm not in Spain. and two, I have documentation to back up my
    claim.

G'day Nigel. No doubt you are busy with RL. Just thought
I'd send you a reminder that I am unable to post to some of
the othernets that I am pulling from your system.

For instance, I cannot post to the Sportnet group. It fails
    with an nntp warning.

Other groups such as Dovenet and ILink are fine.
