• NULL x00A is going to be released...

From xqtr@21:1/111 to All on Saturday, August 15, 2020 16:13:52
I am in the process of releasing a new issue for NULL mag. at late August. If someone wants to add something to this issue, here is the time to do so. It
can be a text file of anything, a tutor, a script, just some thoughts on the BBS scene, retro stuff (like DOS, games, home micros etc.). Any help is appreciated.

I would also like to address to any BBS software developer, if he could be
kind to send me any updates on his work/software that has made in the last couple of months. It's not that i am lazy to look for it, my self, but that, i saw many upgrades in the last months, that i lost track off and wouldn't like to write anything wrong in NULL. For example i know about Titan mail, but i would like the author to send me some sort of text, of what it is and what it can do and explain his point of view, for the software, than writing something of my own, that may be wrong or too simple.

    Thank you in advance. :)

Alright. I have a lot of images i've converted to ascii using a image to
text converte and a few pieces of creative fuvn i have not officially released.

Nothing spectacular yet it would be somnething to contribute. And I love the tutorials :D

Hmm. Well Titan mail is a simple QWK/QWK-E mail reader written using QT so it runs on Linux and Windows (and anything else QT runs on hopefully)

I'm not sure what else to tell. I just wrote it because I like using graphical applications on my desktop.

Other things that are new? Not much from me really. Apart from Titan Mail, I've
been working on Titan BBS quiet a bit. Also working on a revamp of forhonour.

    Not much else.

image to text conversion is a "no-no" thing in the scene. i wouldn't like to mess with the "ansi police" again.

Anything that is originally yours, is welcome and appreciated. I'll be waiting for any material you want to send.

Is there a theme to NULL x00A? I realize I've been making enough ANSIs that I should be able to contribute something, if mediocre-quality stuff is okay,
but as much as I'd like to contribute content to NULL, I've been stymied at figuring out _what_.

Awesome, xqtr! I love reading NULL every release.

As stated earlier, I had some ideas about articles - and altho I didn't get moving on 'new cheeseburger bbs reviews', I'll email you about another
project I've been having a lot of fun with. :P

How 'bout a shout-out to OpenXP?

It's an offline reader. W.r.t FTN, it operates as a point. But it is
also an independant NNTP reader. Any number of nntp servers or FTN boss systems or networks can be added.

OpenXP is a DOS program. UI = Console/Terminal.

It's perfect for anyone who wants to "upgrade" and do away with managing traditional QWK packets!

    Related sites for info:

OH.. and I built a summary/comparison across 3 point software programs
    here:

    As above: OpenXP. :D

Doing the research all by yourself would be daunting. By the time you
would be ready to go to print, a new update may already have taken place.

Well... the general NULL theme, is "dark, underground, oldskool, retro"... but you can make anything you want. There is no need to make something specific
    for NULL.

For example it can be a general ansi drawing of yours, like ansi artists include in packs. Another great idea, but difficult, would be for someone to draw a 2,3,4,5 menu screens as a complete bbs theme, that would be distributed via NULL ;) NULL is all about the bbs scene, so anything related can be included.

Sure! I took a look it seems fine, although i am not a QWK expert :)

Would you like to write something your self and send it over? I didn't even know about the program. If you are using it (do you also develop this? ), then it would be best to write a review/presentation by someone who knows it well.

    So? :)

I am just a user, but I feel responsible for affecting about 10 version changes from:

    OpenXP 5.0.34 - 2018-03-08

    to..

    OpenXP 5.0.42 - 2019-12-28

and.. to the recent interim unofficial release:

    OpenXP 5.0.45 - 2020-06-20

I'll see what I can come up with for the magazine.

I think I now have enough additional bits of info to stitch something together. Is there still time?

I can wait :) But keep me informed, in case you can't deliver, so i don't postpone the publish more.
