Seems quiet around here & I haven't seen a message from Net 2 in awhiDespite having fallen off he air for about a day, I've noticed it also.
Also haven't seen ANY response to my last testicle message which was looking at latency between send and reads...
I figure I'm about half of net 2's messages, at this point (at least sometimes), so perhaps I've just been quieter?
I saw someone else respond to it, and I didn't really know for me -- it sounded mostly like a request for how often people check into their message bases.

How long have you been working on getting your TG ready for the
public? What type of issues have you run into?

Seems quiet around here & I haven't seen a message from Net 2 in awhile.
Can't remember exactly, but maybe about a month on & off. The hardest part was just remembering how to do everything & which programs I used (GEcho or FastEcho) - I used FrontDoor back in the day but that doesn't seem useful now-a-days, so I dipped my toe into BinkD... (Sometimes, I can still hear the screaming...)
Turns out I didn't really need BinkD as I just ended up using directory tossing between FastEcho & Mystic, though it may come into play for DoveNet in a bit.
I haven't decided whether I'll setup AllFix again or not. (i.e do I really need nodelists & infopacks available on TG?)
Been working for a while & got the software setup (BinkD/SGMail/FastEcho/TG-2/Lora)...but am at a stand still right
now.
Add to that not even getting an interview at work for my current job
I've had for almost a year to go from PT to FT. I'm really ready to
chuck it all & say F*** IT ALL to Hell.
I'm glad at the progress you've made. Usually...this would make me
jump for joy...but after the sodomization I got handed to me
today...don't really feel much of anything like joy.

I went into the office yesterday and took a drive around the city
instead of jumping straight onto the freeway. Lots of empty
storefronts and "FOR LEASE" signs. It's going to get ugly(er) around

Actually been flat out today. :)
Thousands of acres on fire nearby, no significant change with the
virus, 2 hurricanes headed for the gulf coast, Republican national convention going on, and remote schooling starting for 2 kids. Things
are starting to settle into a new normal around here.

Actually, I've noticed its been quiet all round for the last couple of weeks.
The distractions in life... between several weekends that were Holidays
in various places (August Bank Holiday some, Labor Day in others), the
mix of very fine weather begging for outdoor time mixed with very poor weather filled with hurricanes, storms and record rains, heartwrenching news suggesting staying as far away from a computer screen or TV as possible, and.... well you get the idea.

I love AoE II, and Age of Mythology as well. I used to play Age of
networked to the family computer with a coax cable. Most of the time I would beat either of them, but my Mom actually got petty good and beat
me a couple of times.

Before the networks die the true death, we could always allow politics again (ROFL).

Too hot, here, though it's also Labor Day, which is a US holiday that a large amount of people don't have to work.
they're calculated, since I'm a German employee. But regardless of German holidays, if the site I'm working at is closed (or basically so), I'm not going to work on that day.
So it's been nice. Took an 8k walk before it got to be too hot, then played Age of Empires II with a (remote) friend.
Phew, that was a lot of rambling....
But I guess the BBS revival is over ...
Or people are confused by too many echos ...

Expect there may be lots of great recounting of adventures that will follow.
I was out of town for a week with just my motorcycle and cellphone! =)
It was much needed vacation and 'wind therapy'. I am back and will be posting though, for sure! =)

I suppose killing FSXnet by homicide would be a bit of a different way of ending an online thing.
I bought a Synology NAS and have been learning all of the ins and outs
of it, and spent the weekend sorting through all of my documents, photos and movies, removing duplicates, moving them to the RAID, setting up a backup task and playing with docker on the NAS.
I moved 1.1 gb of data to the raid, dropping my c: drive size to 224 GB.
I might try replacing my 3tb c: drive with a 480 gb SSD.
My wife's new computer showed up, started setting it up. She needs her
IT guy (the one at her company) to help her set up the VPN as I don't
have the OpenVPN certs.
In between all of this I did get out and enjoy what feels like the last bit of summer here. The morning air has that crispness it gets when
autumn moves in.
I can only talk for myself, but I'm on holiday at the moment.
We arrived at the Baltic Sea yesterday and stayed one night in Travemnde, a part of the city of Lbeck.
Today, we went to our final holiday resort in Heiligenhafen, near the island Fehmarn.
We have a nice apartment just next to the sea and will stay here for
one week.
As we have a full-fledged kitchen, we don't need to have contact to
many people, so it's pandemic-compatible.
My wife is just out to buy some groceries, so I have some time to
catch up with messages :)
Have a nice day!
I'd go walking more often but the weather is so pants right now :(

If we do this, we need to do it on a moving train or something... more like an Agatha Christie plot :)

Heh, who knows... yeah the number of echos I am not sure on... some seem
to be working others less so, but should they be pulled - not sure?
Who killed FSXnet!?!
Yep, I thought so too. I am not across as many FTNs as I used to be but those I am seemed slower too. I wondered if for our folks in the northern hemisphere it's because it's just too dam hot and there's other more pressing stuff to do indoors and out than sit in a stuffy room on a hot day in front of a screen?

lol, i am here during my work hours every weekday.
being able to work from home, allows me the ablity to
also sit on my BBS and hang out for 8 hours a day.
its what keeps me sain from taking password reset calls
all day long :-)
Yay! Happy holidays to you.
Thanks, I've been slack this last week at doing the echomail/bbsing thing but I've been distracted by my other past interests in running a LPFM station
I hope you have/had a nice time where you went.
typing this reply to you has got me wondering when/if/where I might
opt to go when my next holiday rolls around (likely Christmas/Jan
here when it;s our summer) and I honestly don't know.
International travel seems unlikely not to mention costly for us, I will likely go to the North Island and try and see aging parents. Both are looking older and frailer now. It kinda barks, this business of growing older and becoming the 'adult' my inner child still wants to play on the swings!

hopefully they dont put keyboard capturing apps on your computer to spy
on what you type. do they monitor the apps you install on the computer?
i use a seprate laptop for BBSing. that way they cant sniff my traffic over the VPN, and see me on the BBS.
For those of us with central air, it's actually quite nice. BBS'ing for me these days is me stretched out on a couch with my laptop either
reading messages or playing LORD or LORD2. The difficultly is when my
cat decides IT wants to be on my lap & not my laptop.

We don't know either what the future will bring.'
For us, international travel or even flying won't be an option for a very long time, so we're happy that this place is so nice and we're thinking about travelling here the next years.
Honestly, it isn't so much different to flying to an island - given
what we're doing there and here ;)
Well for us yanks over in the states, we just got off a 3 day (well 4
day in my
case) weekend closing out the summer. So I am sure many were out of town for the last hurrah of summer. Me personally I was busy setting up a old computer with XP and setting up my old TAG bbs setup. After getting half way through I kinda realized while it was a nice trip down nostalgia
lane I had a really nice
I also want to build new hourly format clocks that dictate
the order of songs and lists of songs played during the
hour.

That sounds nice. I generally sit in front of the same PC and screens I use for work related stuff during the day but in the evening they point
at my BBSing stuff etc. For the most part it works OK but working from home more means there are days I just have a break from BBSing as I
will end up spending way to much time in one spot otherwise.
truth be told I *should* be working now but during lockdowns etc. things get a bit more loose as a goose :)
I think we are all going through the same thing. There are work things that I'm supposed to be doing, but finding the motivation when WFH all
the time is very difficult. My brain automatically wanders to doing
stuff it is more naturally passionate about.
I also don't feel bad about taking a few hours out for walking or BBS or LPFM or... :)
I think we just need to go easy on ourselves with this stuff. If I can look back at the end of the day and know I crossed a couple of things
off my work list and/or move some stuff along then it's all good.
I also don't feel bad about taking a few hours out for walking or BBS or LPFM or... :)

Think I just got it today. Not sure what was holding up outgoing binkd calls on this end but, after taking it down for a few hours, it immediately called out when I brought it back up. <shrugs>

Absolutely Paul, if we going hard on ourselves for 'not doing enough
work' then we are just going to wind up having nervous breakdowns
because we are always pushing ourselves in an unrealistic way, very unhealty on the mind.
Do what makes us happy, I think that most good employers are
understanding of this and that we are all doing our bit, it's just that our bit isn't quite what it used to be.
Hardly any chatter today for some reason. Why is that?
