Mesoscale Discussion 1563
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1008 PM CDT Wed Oct 10 2018
Areas affected...South Carolina through extreme southern North
Carolina
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely
Valid 110308Z - 110445Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent
SUMMARY...Given recent convective trends and the approach of
Michael, a new tornado watch will likely be needed across much of
South Carolina into extreme southern North Carolina that will extend
through the overnight.
DISCUSSION...The center of Michael currently approaching south
central GA is forecast by the National Hurricane center to continue
northeast tonight. Recent trends have been for convection within the
outer bands to increase from the Gulf Stream northwest into
southeast SC with some updraft rotation observed within discrete
elements. Low-level hodographs will continue to increase in size,
and the threat for isolated tornadoes will expand northeast through
the overnight.
