Mesoscale Discussion 1154
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0501 AM CDT Wed Jul 25 2018
Areas affected...west-central Nebraska
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 251001Z - 251200Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...Isolated strong to severe wind gusts are possible across
parts of west-central Nebraska for a few hours.
DISCUSSION...In the wake of an earlier round of storms, a somewhat
larger complex of storms developed southward out of Wyoming and has
recently passed through CDR with a measured severe wind gust.
Surface analysis shows an outflow boundary progressing well south
and east of these storms, which are being supported by unstable,
elevated inflow via 30 kt southwest 850 mb flow. Given the size of
this cluster, it may persist for a couple hours before encountering
a relatively stable air mass to the east. While the outflow may not
be particularly deep over western areas, downstream the LNX VWP
indicates backed low-level flow around 2km deep which may hinder any
further growth/progression.
