The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 278
continues.

SUMMARY...Locally gusty, damaging winds remain possible this
afternoon over parts of southern New England.

DISCUSSION...KBOX reflectivity data indicate that a
west/east-oriented outflow has pushed ahead of convection over parts
of central/eastern Massachusetts this afternoon. In turn, updrafts
are likely becoming increasingly rooted above this outflow-modified
air mass over much of the state. This should serve to limit damaging
wind potential, but localized gusty winds may still occur underneath
the strongest cores. South of the outflow boundary (primarily
northern CT to southeastern MA), steep low-level lapse rates may
offer slightly greater potential for isolated damaging gusts, as
downdraft momentum can more readily reach the surface. This
potential should become increasingly focused over southeastern parts
of Watch 278 through late afternoon.
