The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 253
continues.

SUMMARY...A line of storms moving across northern and central
Illinois continues to pose a severe weather threat. The primary
threat from these storms will be damaging winds.

DISCUSSION...The line of storms which has formed across northern and
central Illinois has not produced much severe weather up to this
point. 0 to 6 km shear (20 kts per the LOT 20Z VWP and 15 kts per
the 19Z ILX sounding) remains weak, however, strong buoyancy (2500
to 3000 MLCAPE on RAP mesoanalysis) ahead of this line will continue
to support some severe weather threat through the afternoon and into
the evening. The primary severe threat will remain damaging wind
gusts due to downward momentum transfer of 30 to 40 knots of flow
around 1 km above the surface (LOT 20Z VWP).
