    Mesoscale Discussion 0909
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0455 PM CDT Wed Jun 27 2018

Areas affected...Central South Carolina and Far Eastern Georgia

    Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 229...

    Valid 272155Z - 280000Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 229
    continues.

SUMMARY...A line of storms continues moving southeast across Watch
#229. Strong wind gusts are likely and hail is possible. The watch
may need to be extended farther to the southeast given current storm
    movement before 01z.

DISCUSSION...An upper-level shortwave trough continues to provide
ascent aloft for this broken line of storms stretching from central
North Carolina to central Alabama. The line of storms within Watch
#229 appears to be accelerating given recent radar scans. A stronger
cold pool appears to be developing behind the line of storms and the
outflow remains relatively close to the leading edge of the line.
Moderate buoyancy (MLCAPE of 1500-2000 J/kg) should help promote
storm development as the line propagates southeastward. The overall
shear environment remains relatively weak although there is some
low-level veering in the profile per RAP soundings/VWP. Strong wind
gusts are likely and severe wind is possible given the steeper
low-level lapse rates. The storms may move out of the watch before
it expires at 01z so a southeastward spatial extension may be
necessary. A separate MCD is being written regarding the line of
    storms across Georgia/Alabama.
