The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 178
continues.
SUMMARY...Large hail and strong winds should accompany convection
this evening.
DISCUSSION...Convection is gradually increasing across western SD
into extreme southwest ND. This activity is initiating along eastern
edge of very steep lapse rate plume where surface temperature
earlier warmed in excess of 100F. Initial convection appears to be
high based but there is some concern updrafts may begin to draw more
buoyant low-level parcels as updrafts encounter higher theta-e
environment. MRMS hail algorithm depicts large hail with updrafts
over northwestern SD and hail can be expected with other robust
convection this evening. Additionally, gusty winds may be noted with
this high-based convection as temp/dew point spreads are
considerable across western SD.
