    Mesoscale Discussion 0675
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0840 PM CDT Fri Jun 08 2018

Areas affected...South central South Dakota...north central Nebraska

    Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 163...164...

    Valid 090140Z - 090315Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 163, 164
    continues.

SUMMARY...Frequent cloud to ground lightning, heavy rain and some
hail will remain possible with the evolving convective system, and
the potential for strong wind gusts is still expected to increase,
as it spreads southeastward into portions of the Nebraska Sand Hills
and mid Missouri Valley through 10-11 PM CDT.

DISCUSSION...In the presence of weak to modest lower/mid
tropospheric warm advection, a sizable thunderstorm cluster
continues to evolve and organize near the central South
Dakota/Nebraska border area. Deep layer shear remains modest, but
is contributing to a general southeastward propagation of stronger
convection. It does appear that an associated conglomerate surface
cold pool is continuing to strengthen/deepen, and associated lift
may maintain intense convection, despite increasing inhibition
associated with the onset of diurnal cooling and warmer mid-level
air with southwestward extent into the central high plains. CAPE
within the southerly low-level inflow remains large, and further
strengthening of the cold pool seems probable during the next few
hours. As this occurs, the development of more widespread strong
winds still appears possible, particularly along the gust front as
    it begins to surge southeastward.
