These codes are in there for a reason. If you're modifying a
text.dat file without actually seeing where/how its used in the

actually looks when used.
You seem to be browsing the text.dat looking for things to
change. That is backwards. Instead, you should be browsing your
BBS looking for things you want to change and then if that thing
happens to be in the text.dat, change it then. Not before.

It might be a better use of time to read over the Synchronet documentation.
BBS,Trying to make a lot of changes to your text.dat set up now
you're likely to want to tweak and change it more to look just how you want.
before you can use it seems like it would be somewhat of a waste of time. Also, there's a LOT more that goes into customizing a

Please, seriously, think about the questions you're asking. DM is

them really are quite silly. Especially when nearly every single
one of them concerns the details of "text.dat". That is near the
bottom of the list in importance of ANY file involved in SBBS.

Nope, not a valid UTF-8 character sequence. It's 0x8D which is also what early FidoNet specs called a "soft-carriage-return" (Soft-CR). I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or what.
