Another example, a jocular saying in English: Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and prove it.

Although if silence has been in the house for a month even a bad clown is not bad. 8-)

BTW, this author's name is spelled "Leacock"... "lea" as in a bit of potential grazing land or farm land and "cock" as in rooster. :-)

In a story by Stephen Leacok, "How we kept Mother's Birthday" he writes:

"It is especially in a big family like ours that such an idea takes hold. So we
decided to have a special celebration of Mother's Day. We though it a fine idea. It made us all realize how much Mother had done for us for years, and all
