From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 01:02:34
Yeah - you've been here for years, didn't you
    loin anything about us?
    Perhaps a bit... ;)

    Just kidney you.

I know you had to bring that up, but let's not
go any farther along that line.
I wasn't planning to go farther, but, yes, I had to bring that up.. :)

Also there were some bbs softwares (and messaging softwares, I think)
that just chopped off anything past a certain length, so a lot could go missing....
Which would have made a lot of sense in those
    days of more pricy communication.
I was given to understand that it was somewhat a flaw in the software,
    not intentional...

If it was a flaw, it was a convenient one for
    cost-cutting syops.

I'm glad that with EMACS and BW, I don't have to worry about not being able to trim down quotes... the editor that comes with Pegasus (my email reader) isn't quite so user-friendly, at least for me... I've been known to not quote at all there, just because all I wanted to respond to was a smaller bit I couldn't crop down to...
Whatever works. There should be a way within
    your reader, though.
It requires much more proficiency with pointing devices and their magic spells as opposed to the keyboard magic spells I can handle just fine...

No way to map keyboard shenanigans, which you
should be good at, with the editing functions?

I was seldom if ever the taunter unless taunted upon
first. As far as being the victim, sure, that
happened, but much more seldom as time went on, as
I learned that fighting back (in whatever way) was
satisfying, even if, as more frequently happened, I
unjustly got the blame for the incitation.
I didn't exactly fight back, but in time, there was much less being a
victim, mostly from learning how to diffuse situations... also I did
stand up for other victims, even if quietly....

I wasn't massively confrontational but was perfectly
happy to aid anyone who in my eyes needed such support,
well, with one exception, a terminally annoying kid
who, as many such do, ended up being a deejay.

They seem to be, from the performances I've heard... of course, it's
radio so one can't view the performance... :)
We've recently gone from audio preliminary auditions
to video ones, and I hate it.
With the video auditions one can see annoying traits one might have been
    more blssfully unaware of otherwise...?

They add distractions that one can do without, and
despite efforts to the contrary, judges are more swayed
by appearance than they ought to be. I'm against it,
having seen outward charm and physical attraction
carry way too much weight. It's been represented to
me that the visual aspect is part of the enjoyment
of a performance, but I've countered that the quality
of the music must come first by a wide margin. It's
interesting that of the seven most current members of
this committee, six are performers, and four are
accounted very attractive, and the other two of us
are not so bad. Our chair has recently turned in her
resignation both from the committee and from the
association itself, as our board of directors has been
hostile to our attempts to focus our financial aid on
worthy but less privileged candidates. She is joining
the board of a nonprofit whose mission is to put
musical instruments in the hands of the very needy
and that is potentially one of our beneficiaries.

Yeah - you've been here for years, didn't you

    Just kidney you.

    Deliverately, I see... ;)

Also there were some bbs softwares (and messaging softwares, I think) that just chopped off anything past a certain length, so a lot could go missing....

    not intentional...
If it was a flaw, it was a convenient one for
    cost-cutting sysops.

True, somewhat... as long as it didn't engender too many extra messages,
as people would have two messages instead of one, and the second would
say very little but have all the overhead of a single message again...

No way to map keyboard shenanigans, which you
should be good at, with the editing functions?

The wizard does the mapping shenanigans, not me... and I don't know if
    it is possible or not...

I was seldom if ever the taunter unless taunted upon
first. As far as being the victim, sure, that
happened, but much more seldom as time went on, as
I learned that fighting back (in whatever way) was
satisfying, even if, as more frequently happened, I

happy to aid anyone who in my eyes needed such support,
well, with one exception, a terminally annoying kid
who, as many such do, ended up being a deejay.

There was one guy in our college radio station who got picked on,
justifiably, regularly... he saw me as a staunch supporter, mainly
because I didn't overtly join in and was quiet about things... I also
didn't disabuse him of the notion (nor positively affirm it)... he was
arrogant enough to not really notice others' treatment of him anyway...

They seem to be, from the performances I've heard... of course, it's radio so one can't view the performance... :)
We've recently gone from audio preliminary auditions

    Ah.

I'm against it, having seen outward charm and physical
attraction carry way too much weight. It's been represented
to me that the visual aspect is part of the enjoyment
of a performance, but I've countered that the quality
of the music must come first by a wide margin.

Agreed that the quality of the music should come first... The visual
sapect might be entertaining, but good music, one can close the eyes and
still enjoy... in fact, sometimes that is preferable... Not to say that
    I don't enjoy watching a pianist's hands on the keyboard, as I do... :)

It's interesting that of the seven most current members
of this committee, six are performers, and four are
accounted very attractive, and the other two of us
    are not so bad.

Attractive isn't a bad thing... and I'd guess that most people aren't so
    bad, either... :)

Our chair has recently turned in her
resignation both from the committee and from the
association itself, as our board of directors has been

The nonprofit she's joining is potentially a beneficiary...? I give her
credit for sticking to her guns, and finding a way to get the help to
    those that need it... :)
