The Commie side of me says "right on," while
the Chinese mercantile side of me shudders.
The sad thing being that those that suffered did so needlessly, just
for status... not that that is all that extraordinary, of course...
In this case, the higher SES suffered. In most
situations, it's the lower classes, which is
    equally sad.
    True.
Even awful situations benefit somebody; so
sometimes those who would do so go out of
    their way to cause them.
    Indeed. Reprehensible, but sadly understandable....

    It ain't a perfect world.

I knew was historic, I didn't know how historic.
So it all went well... were there demonstrations to worry about..?
No, just lots of well-dressed older people on
    their way to cultural events.
A mob of its own, but presumably well-behaved... ;)

Sort of meandering, so not much of a mob. The fact
there was lots of construction to dodge made the
    mobbiness aspect less likely.

It was a good concert - the orchestra was as
good as the best I've played in, the conductor
was a conductor rather than a poseur, and
Gidon Kremer, though elderly and doddering
(5 years older than me), is still Gidon Kremer.
Very nice... :) And may he be able to continue for some years to come,
as well... Once upon a time he'd've seemed quite ancient to me.... but
there certainly is a different perspective as one gets older one's
    self... (G)

He seemed to me to be quite ancient. I mentioned
this to Irina Muresanu (though she's quite possibly
as good a violinist as he, she really looks up to
him), and she allowed as how she is getting a bit
ancient herself (I think she's in her 40s).

That worked out well enough, then.... :)
One of those fun random things.
    Nice.
It was a good day, punctuated only by Lilli's
    health anxieties.
    Probably the new normal....

Sad to say, that's what I'm looking forward to.

    --mm
    Flanken (flunken) soup
categories: Jewish, beef, main, soup, way not enough garlic
    serves: 8 to 10

    3 lb beef plate
    1 lb beef bones
    3 1/2 qt cold water
    1 lg onion, quartered
    1 Tb salt
    soup greens
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 ts peppercorns

Bring beef parts and water to a boil. Skim. Add remaining
ingredients, cover loosely, and simmer 2 hr or until meat
is tender. Remove beef and strain the soup.

Serve soup in bowls; slice beef and serve separately,
    with horseradish.
