also sacrificed a jar of Sechler's sweet orange strip pickles
from his pantry. These were exceedingly sweet and just a tad
    orangey
These sound intriguing. I'm not familiar with Sechler's or orange
strip pickles. So are they cucumber pickles with some orange juice,

I wasn't either, and I didn't see the name having much to do with
the contents or the flavors. There was a dusky old-citrus aroma
that reminded me a little of the Florida orange wine that Bodle
I believe it was (or Drum?) ambushed Ian and me with at one of the
    echo picnics many years ago.

peel or oil in the brine or pickled orange rinds? And what would
    they go with?

Probably oil, as there was not much of the orange presence that
one might expect, ni color ni flavor. What to accompany? I thought
they were to be eaten out of hand as a snack or (given their
overwhelming sweetness) instead of dessert. Or they could be part
of a Penn Dutch seven sweets and seven sours, making up perhaps
three of the sweets by themselves.
